It is wireless, if you use a PC cable can be used.
Manufacturers such as Pocket Wizards built a transmitter that fits onto the accessory shoe.
You also get a PW receiver connected with a flashlight in the light.
When you press the shutter button to take a picture, the receiver sends a signal to trigger PW adapting flash PW.
